As the moderator of a chat site, you have
the duty to monitor the day-to-day status of your chat room. You need to know the
number of your active users vs. the non-active ones. You also need to come up with a list of your bankable
users (it’s okay not to mind your non-bankable users because that will just
give you stress).
1. Decide if the number of your chat rooms works for the number of
active users your site or not. Create the appropriate number of rooms for your
users, with appropriate title of course! Then decide whether the room topic
should be limited to a single one or not. One important thing you should never
forget to include is to click whether the room is private or public.
2. Create an invitation link that you will send to users that you
think likes to join a new chat room. If attaching a message to the prospect
user, make sure the message is very concise and attractive. You do not need to
be a writer to make a very striking message. Chat site moderation needs your
extra-talents here!
3. Kick users that harass others. Inform the users the specific
violation committed. Check your guidelines if you have “temporary” or “timely”
kick. Kick, for some chat sites, serves as warning for misbehaving users. If
the violations are too serious, you might as well ban the user but make sure to
inform the user of the violation. For sure you can feel the weight of your
workload when doing such. You will get to know how FBI agents and cops feel
every time they learn about crimes and misconducts. Isn’t it chat site
moderation wonderful and full of adventure?
4. One best management style to a misbehaving user is suspending the
user’s account for a moment- say five minutes or one day. This will let the
user realize the mistake he or she has done. As the moderator, you must assure
that you are kicking, suspending or banning the right user. When you banned or
kicked a bankable user accidentally, it seems you have aborted a baby that will
make a family as rich as Bill Gates.
5. Manage the chat room by using Chat Options properly. You may hide
the topic if you feel the topic of the chat room is known to every user. You
may pause or stop the chat if you believe it is the right thing to do when
having some technical difficulties. You may also allow links to be posted as
long as the links are reviewed properly basing on the set moderation guidelines.
After logging
into your account, check the site’s current figures and available data. Review
the design or the settings of the chat rooms you handle or the site itself. If
you are ready to join the conversation and supervise the whole chat room,
appear now with your desired moderator username and make yourself desirable to
the chat site you are moderating.
