1. Should
we accept small pictures?
Clarification: How small are small
pictures? We have different size standards (5 X 7 or 758 pixels wide) that are
the bases why an image should be accepted or not.
Accept: If your site uses an
application that automatically synch an image submission to fit the designed
space for the image, you may accept any image at all. However, you need to
check the images when automatically synched since these can be too stretched
that these become ugly pixilated.
Reject: Pictures that may affect the
quality of the web page should not be accepted. That is why you need to caution
contributors or submitting members that you are only accepting a maximum or
minimum image size.
2. Are
watermarked images okay to accept?
Clarification: Watermarks are crafted
on images for the owner to identify that the image is his. Watermarks advertise
the owner source, especially when the image is done in x-deals and promotional
activities and is expected to go viral.
Accept: When accepting watermarked
images, make sure that you did not distort the contained logo or the watermark.
If the watermark contains a link or a website, you may take extra effort to notify
the owner about the image being submitted or uploaded on the site.
Reject: Owners of the images feel they
are bypassed or their copyright is violated when the watermarked photos are
posted online without them knowing about it. Thus, it would be safe to not
accept such images. It would also be inappropriate to accept watermarked images
when the site pays members to submit data.
3. What
happens to screenshot images?
Clarification: Screenshots are
considered original photos. However, these may be too risky to accept since
these can expose confidential information or violate agreements the member has
entered to.
Accept: It is safe to accept
screenshots of sites that are in public, like Google and Facebook. Another
condition is if the site (you are moderating) is catered at general public. Plus
of course, no illegal things are promoted.
Reject: There are some sites (we are
referring to the screenshots) that require visitors to become paying
subscribers first before they could view the contents. Thus, these sites surely
require content privacy. And if you allow the posting of the screenshots of
these sites, you are allowing a banned activity.
4. What
if members say that nudity is art?
Reject: We are not dealing with
personal philosophies in moderation. Images implying sexual activities are
pornographic and may afford the reputation of a site to be corrupted. It is the
job of the moderation department to set the rules straight that pornographic
images, regardless these are for ‘arts’ sake or not.
5. How
about same images submitted by different members?
Clarification: As long as you find the
image not violating the basic rules in submitting images, you may accept
“redundant photos”. But it is always up
to your site if you accept such photos. For reactive moderation, you may just
accept these photos then delete them if a member complains about it.
