You do not need to become a graduate of Stanford
University to be the best manager of social conversations. All you need to do
is simple: eat three times a day, sleep eight hours a day and read this blog
regularly.
Here are tips in managing social conversations. Your
goal is to deliver your message to your audience in the chat room or in the group
efficiently.
Target a smaller population so you can modify your
speech with each population. That is why you need to categorize your list: per
location, sex, educational attainment, profession, marital status, political
standing etc.
Know the site or app which most of
your audience use. Use the site to reach them. If they use YM or Skype, then
use it also. Do not force them to use what you are using. One last thing:
always tell the member if webcam is needed or not during the conversation.
Launch your flag. Assume you are the captain of a ship.
You need a logo. You need some identifying images. You will be using these
every time your converse with someone else. Be consistent in using the images.
Do not alter them from time to time. It would be okay to modify the images to
put a touch of the season being celebrated, but never change the images
totally.
Prepare your Calendar Story. Write on a piece of paper
the gist of the information you want to share during a conversation. Arrange
notes if necessary. Plot all the stories on a calendar. Identify what message you
are going to share during a specific day. This strategy will help you create
varying topics and facilitate interesting social conversations.
Using of dude, dear, bro, friend, buddy, mate, team players,
soulmate etc is acceptable depending on the status of the members and the
nature of the business. If you are dealing with professionals, the words you
will use are more likely formal.
When using social networking sites, use the following
tools:
Netvibes: share your widgets and keep track of news and
trends
Threadsy: unify your multiple email accounts on Facebook
and Twitter
Hootsuite: update multiple social media platforms like
Facebook, MySpace and Plurk from a computer or even from your iPhone
Myweboo: organize your information streams and invite
users to browse on popular streams
Spredfast: monitor multiple social media channels and
measure social media presence
Tip to become better and better every day in moderating:
review conversation histories. You will get to notice that there are questions
that you have not responded to. Analyze the kind of questions your audience
members are giving you. This will help you prepare for the next sessions. In
the next sessions, you can manage online communities while listening to the
latest hits of Lady Gaga and Maroon 5.
